Mint Dyeing with a Special Scrap Fabric

I made a natural dye by gently simmering fresh mint leaves in water. To prevent the color from spreading on the fabric, I added a cornstarch slurry to thicken the mint extract.

新鮮なミントの葉を水でやさしく煮出し、自然の染液を作りました。布の上で色が広がりすぎないように、水で溶いたコーンスターチを加えてミント液にとろみをつけました。

The fabric I used was a beautiful silk cotton scrap gifted by my friend. She brought it to me because she thought I would love it.

今回使ったのは、友達が「きっと好きだと思う」と持ってきてくれた美しいシルクコットンの端切れ。

I’m going to show her how this little scrap has been transformed into a book cover.

今度、彼女にこの端切れがこんなふうに生まれ変わったこと、そしてブックカバーになった姿を見せに行こうと思っています。
